Can I ask you if you ever decided to join the military as an officer? The pay isn’t bad and you can get out of it after a few years if its not for you. I know there are a lot of naval bases stationed in Japan, so its highly likely to be able to work in Japan where you can study your Japanese education.
Well, its just a suggestion that I thought you could look into. I dont mean to sound like some type of recruiter, (even though Im definitely playing the role of one right now). I myself tried for the Jet program and failed, found out that manga translations dont make much money… and ultimately found out that I dont want to translate for other people…. I just want to translate for myself as you have been doing. Therefore, while in college and with nothing going for me (I had also given up on going to medical school after the difficuty and lack of interest) I joined the navy as an officer and I’m hoping to go to japan. My japanese is probably on par with a second level at reading, and a total beginner at speaking, but hopefully it can get better.
Best of luck to you sir, I truly hope that things work out for you now and in the future.

Something you posted on my blog offends me a bit, what does it matter if I’m 16?
